Our Spring 2021 Call For Entries Is Here!

With our new award cycle comes 11 categories, including four completely new themes and a free entry category open to photographers 18 and under.

We have an incredible line-up of judges, both preliminary and final round (check them out HERE!)

More than ever before, the DFA is committed to being not just a photo awards organization but a resource to photographers, a place to discover new artists and inspiring work, a landing place for anyone seeking education and growth.

But what makes the documentary family awards the leading competition for documentary family photography, is the caliber of work and the diverse perspectives shared by the photographers who enter.

We love photography and we are delighted to share that love of photography with all of you.

We hope you take some time this month to recognize the significance and value of the photography you are making.  And that you enter it into the Documentary Family Awards!

1st Place in the “Cell Phone Only” category. Photo by Leslie Kershaw, United States.

“When I took this photo I kept it to myself for a few months. I loved it so much and I just wanted to enjoy it. I added it in my favorites folder in my phone and posted it online a few months later. People “liked it” and I was thankful, but it didn’t validate how I felt about the image. That freedom allowed me to enter it into a competition because despite how the judges felt, I already knew it was “award winning” in my eyes.”

The Documentary Family Awards is an international competition in search of the insightful and meaningful ways that documentary photographers explore the interpretation of family.
